2 pilgrims from Odisha die in Nepal bus accident
Bhubaneswar: Two pilgrims from Odisha died in a road accident when the bus they were travelling in was hit by a truck in Rautahat district of Nepal on Monday night. The deceased have been identified as Bijay Kumar Jena of Jatni and Charan Biswal of Malipada, Khurda.
Two others from Odisha, Sheshadev Jena (53) and Sarbeshwar Jena (55), have sustained critical injuries and are undergoing treatment at Neuro Hospital in Birjung.
The pilgrims had gone to Nepal on June 6. Sources said the accident occurred when the Kathmandu-bound bus carrying 60 passengers had halted at Paurai forest area for passengers to freshen up. The bus was pushed for 20 metres into the forest after being rammed from behind by the truck.
While both the pilgrims from Odisha died on the spot, 21 others were wounded and rushed to Chandranigaharpur hospital.
The driver of the truck fled the spot. Local police informed the Indian Consulate in Birjung about the mishap.
