Illegal arms making unit busted in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police arrested a man engaged in illegal arms manufacturing here on Sunday evening.
The accused, identified as Nrusingha Nayak, aged 45, is a resident of Sarakantara and an employee of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT).
Acting on a tip off, the police raided government residential quarters and unearthed materials used in making country-made pistols.
“We recovered brass pipes, gun powder and other materials used in manufacturing guns, along with three unfinished revolvers. More details will be divulged after the preliminary investigation,” informed Cuttack Bhubaneswar Commissioner of Police Satyajit Mohanty.
Meanwhile, in the run-up to the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, authorities have seized Rs 2.97 crore cash and 1.27 lakh litres of liquor in Odisha, an official statement said.
A statement from the Chief Electoral Officer said the liquor worth Rs 3.51 crore was seized in the state with the help of excise officials and police, while flying squads seized the cash from across the state.
AS many as 5,177 licensed guns have been deposited with the district administration concerned while 232 unlicensed weapons have been seized, it said.
