Bhubaneswar: A leopard, which was on the prowl in the airport area for the last two days, was finally caught in a trap laid by the rescue and tranquilliser teams late on Tuesday night. The big cat was reportedly caught near the Cargo Gate of the airport.
The leopard was trapped in the cage set up by the team around 3 am after being offered a hen as prey. It was then safely released in the Chandaka forests after being given a preliminary treatment at the Nandankanan Zoological Park following tranquillisation, sources said.
Residents of Palaspalli and nearby areas were panic-stricken till the animal was captured. After a massive search operation by a 10-member team yielded no results, the Forest department personnel laid seven traps and installed 10 trap cameras at different places where the leopard was suspected to be hiding.
A CCTV footage showed the leopard entering commercial establishment premises near the airport.
