Odisha to use ‘Cvigil’ app during 2019 general polls
Bhubaneswar: With the simultaneous polls for general Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections slated for this year, people of the State can use a new technology to report any violation of the model code of conduct during elections.
Briefing media after chairing an orientation programme with Additional chief secretary (home), police DG, Excise and Crime Branch officials, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Surendra Kumar said that through the Cvigil app, people can also report incidents along with pictures and videos and appropriate action will be taken as per law after field inquiry.
The app has already been tested on a pilot basis during the recent Assembly elections in five heartland states including Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
As part of preparedness for the simultaneous polls, various issues including poll expenditure management, model code of conduct, vulnerability mapping and law and order aspects were discussed during the meeting today.
Kumar informed that the programme was held to sensitise enforcement agencies like Police and Excise about various SOPs needed to be followed during pre-election, polling and post-poll scenario.
DGP RP Sharma said that police personnel will be adequately trained in poll management activities and a vulnerability mapping and booth management in naxal-affected areas of the State will be carried out after a review.
