Rising atrocities against women: BJP Mahila Morcha on warpath against State government
Bhubaneswar: The BJP Mahila Morcha today took out a massive ‘Lal Churi Abhiyan’ and marched towards Naveen Niwas to hand over dozens of red bangles to the Chief Minister as a mark of protest against the alleged failure of the State government in controlling the rising atrocities against women in the State.
Hundreds of women wing activists of the saffron party participated in the rally carrying the red bangles and raised slogans against the State government and the police over rising cases of rapes and cases of violence against minor girls and issues like the Pipili gang rape case.
Senior BJP MP Roopa Ganguli who was the main attraction of the protest lambasted the BJD-led government for failing to provide justice to Pipili gang rape victim. She also pressed for a CBI enquiry into the incident.
The protesters also sought explanation from the State government over recent cases of minor girls delivering babies inside residential school hostels.
The members of the party also had a scuffle with police when the latter prevented them from marching towards the residence of the CM. Several women protesters were also taken into detention.
On the other hand, the ruling-BJD hit back at the protest terming it as ill-fated and baseless.
Alleging that the saffron party is trying to bring up unsubstantiated issues to harbor political gains, BJD leader Kasturi Mohapatra said Naveen Patnaik-led government has always been working for the empowerment of women.
