Bhubaneswar: Medical College will be set up in all district headquarters of Odisha, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling informed on Thursday on completion of 100 days of BJP government in the state.
“As part of the top 21 promises made by the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government, the medical colleges will be established in all district headquarters of the state in five years. The blueprint in this regard is being prepared,” he told reporters.
He said that 11 medical colleges are functioning in the state and two more at Talcher and Kandhamal are in the pipeline. “When Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, the Centre framed a new rule for setting up medical colleges in all districts of the country. Accordingly, the medical colleges have been set up in Odisha on the basis of central and state share of 60:40,” he said.
Mahaling informed that the government has signed MoUs with six institutes – IIT-Bhubaneswar, NISER, Xavier Institute of Management, Shri Shri University, AIIMS-Bhubaneswar at Odisha University of Health Sciences here in presence of Vice-Chancellor Manas Ranjan Sahu and in online mode with Jipmer and Chandigarh’s PGIMER. “The objecting is exchange of ideas between Odisha University of Health Sciences and other institutions for growth of science, research and management,” he said.
He added that PhD programme has also begun at Odisha University of Health Sciences.
