Bhubaneswar: Leader of Opposition (LoP) and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik on Thursday targeted the Odisha government over the alleged death of two women after consuming mango kernel gruel.
“Without reason, now the State government has stopped supplying rice (PDS) to poor tribal brothers and sisters. They (tribals) are consuming mango kernel gruel instead. It is a matter of great sorrow,” Naveen Patnaik said.
Quoting a popular Odia adage, the LoP expressed, “Amara Bara Barsara Tapasya Ku Sukhua Podare Saridele (which means, they spoiled our efforts of the last 12 years).”
Reacting to this in a presser, Kantabanji BJP MLA Laxman Bag stated, “I do not know when Naveen Babu sat and performed his ‘tapasya’ in starvation and empty stomach in the last 12 years. Even, I do not know when he wore a yogi’s attire. If at all he knows this, you (media) better ask him when he received his Deekshya (initiation) and became a yogi.”
Worth mentioning that the two women died allegedly after consuming gruel prepared from mango kernels at Mandipanka village under the Daringbadi block of Kandhamal district. Six others, who had consumed the kernel, also became critically ill.
