Bhubaneswar: The number of voters in Odisha has increased by 0.94% as per the draft voter list released by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nikunja Kumar Dhal on Friday.
Speaking to media persons in Bhubaneswar on the draft voter list, Dhal said the total number of voters has increased from 3,23,52,119 to 3,26,55,213, registering an increase of 3,03,094 voters at the rate of 0.94%.
While 6,22,429 new voters have been added in the draft list, names of 3,19,345 voters have been deleted for various reasons including death, change of address and people with multiple voter cards, he added.
“The gender ratio of the electorate has also improved in the state. Compared to gender ratio of 1000:961 earlier, now it stands at 1000:963,” he added.
Dhal said with the increase in the number of voters, the number of booths has been increased from 37,606 to 37,809.
Meanwhile, as announced earlier, the special summary revision of voter cards began from Friday on the direction of the Election Commission of India. “The voters can apply for correction or enrolment till December 9 both online and offline and call 1950 for more assistance,” Dhal said.
As scheduled, the errors in the list would be rectified by December 26 and the final list released on January 5, he added.
