Bhubaneswar: With dry weather prevailing across Odisha, the night temperature plummeted below 15 degree Celsius at five places in the state in the last 24 hours, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre informed on Sunday.
Semiliguda in Koraput district recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 12.4 degree Celsius followed by Koraput and G Udayagiri in Kandhamal at 12.6 degree Celsius each, and Daringbadi and Phulbani, also in Kandhamal, at 13.5 and 14 degree Celsius, respectively. The night temperature also dropped to 15 degree Celsius at Nabarangpur, 15.5 degree Celsius at Kirei and 16.5 degree Celsius at Bhawanipatna and Boudh. Rourkela recorded 16.7 degree Celsius while the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack saw the mercury drop to 19.8 and 19.5 degree Celsius, respectively.
With the likely formation of a low pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal around November 14, and its intensification into depression over Central and adjoining South Bay of Bengal around November 16 after moving westnorthwestwards, light to moderate rain is likely to resume in Odisha from November 15.
“A cyclonic circulation lies over Gulf of Thailand and it is likely to emerge into Andaman Sea on November 13. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over Southeast Bay of Bengal around November 14. It is likely to move westnorthwestwards and intensify into a depression over Central & adjoining South Bay of Bengal around November 16,” the MeT office said in its midday bulletin.
Rainfall is expected in parts of coastal and interior pockets under the influence of the possible system, Umashankar Das, a scientist of the regional IMD centre in the city, said. However, there will be no major change in the night temperature during next 4-5 days.
RAIN FORECAST
November 15: Light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at a few places in South Coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapada
November 16: Light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely at a few places in Coastal Odisha, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and at one or two places in Angul, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.
November 17: Light to moderate rain/ thundershower may occur at a few places in North Coastal Odisha ,Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri and at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri.
November 18: Light to moderate rain/thundershower may continue at one or two places in North Coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas. Squally weather with wind speed 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman sea on November 14-15.
