Sterilisation Of Stray Dogs In Bhubaneswar After Court Order, Says BMC Commissioner

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation will take up sterilisation of the stray dogs after obtaining permission from the court

Speaking to media persons on Monday, BMC Commissioner Vijay Amrita Kulange admitted that the number of dog bite cases has gone up in Bhubaneswar recently due to rise in population of street dogs.

“In order to prevent dog menace and control their population, sterilisation is the only suitable method. The BMC is ready to start the process. But it is not going ahead with sterilisation as the matter was pending in the court,” Kulange said.

He hoped that the court order would be issued towards the end of December and then the BMC would start the sterilisation operation.

Stating that the BMC has already set up 250 kennels in Mancheswar area of the city, the Commissioner said a hospital equipped with latest gadgets has also been opened there. The hospital can perform sterilisation operation in a day, he added.
