PG Student Arrested For Possession Of Brown Sugar Worth Over Rs 1 Crore In Odisha’s Puri

Puri: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police has arrested a drug peddler and seized a huge quantity of brown sugar valued at more than Rs one crore in Odisha’s Puri district.

Speaking to media persons on Saturday, STF SP Kishore Kumar Panigrahi said they had received intelligence inputs about deal of brown sugar in Nimapara town of the district. Acting on the information, a team of STF, Bhubaneswar conducted raid on a place near JIO petrol pump in the town on Friday night.

They apprehended a youth, identified as Sujit Kumar Mohanty alias Papulu of Gualapada village under Nimapada Town police limits. During search, the STF team found brown sugar weighing 1 kg and 60 gram and several incriminating materials from his possession.

As Sujit could not produce any document for possession of the contraband, the STF personnel seized the brown sugar and arrested him. The value of the seized drugs was estimated to be more than Rs 1 crore.

Sujit is a first year student of post-graduate in Physics in a college of Puri. The 24-year-old student will be forwarded to the court following his arrest, the SP said.
