New Delhi: Ramanan Laxminarayan, Economist, Epidemiologist, Founder & Director, One Health Trust, said that while antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is the third leading cause of death in the world, India has the highest number of drug-resistant pathogens.
Amid AMR, he said that Disease X is lurking and could become the next pandemic after Covid-19.
“Viruses are always experiencing antigenic properties. We will have to get new vaccines. Covid-19 is never going to leave us. Potentially, the subtype is more virulent. It’s going to be more of an issue with elderly people. There is no end to Covid. It is here to stay with us,” Laxminarayan said at India Today Conclave 2024.
