Bhubaneswar: With the arrest of a high-profile burglar, police on Sunday claimed to have cracked many cases of burglaries in different parts of Odisha capital in last one year.
The accused, identified as Parshuram Giri from Balasore district, operated alone and mostly targeted abandoned houses.
Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, Sanjeeb Panda told reporters that the high-profile robber was arrested during night blocking and checking. Giri is involved in over 21 cases of burglary including four cases in areas under Mancheswar police station.
Police have recovered Rs 21 lakh cash, around 700 grams of gold ornaments, 7 kgs of silver ornaments, and two motorcycles from the accused, Panda said.
Giri, who had failed in 9th class, used to maintain a lavish lifestyle and often stayed in five-star hotels, including Taj in Mumbai, he said.
Stating that the accused was arrested five times in the past, the Police Commissioner said it is suspected that over 50 cases are registered against him.
Giri used to go barefoot and enter houses by breaking windows and put his phone on flight mode while committing robberies. He used to commit burglaries in only after ascertaining that the houses were locked and nobody was present, the CP said.
Despite having many property in Bhubaneswar and his village, the accused had turned a robber. Preliminary findings showed that he only stole cash and ornaments and never targeted other valuables like electronic gadgets.
