Bhubaneswar: Lieutenant General (Dr) Sarat Chandra Dash, Army Medical Corps (Retired), from Odisha’s Nayagarh was among the personnel of the Armed Forces and the Indian Coast Guard, who were conferred with distinguished service recognitions.
He received the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal from President Droupadi Murmu for exceptional service and dedication to the nation.
The awards were conferred during the second phase of the defense investiture ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Friday. “These decorations–31 Param Vishisht Seva Medals, four Uttam Yudh Seva Medals, two Bar to Ati Vishisht Seva Medals, and 57 AVSMs–have been given to the personnel for distinguished service of exceptional order,” a release from the Ministry of Defence said.
A SCB Medical College alumnus, Dash completed MCh in Urology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He has also received specialised training in robotic urology surgery from the United States.
The Lt Gen retired from the Indian Army as the Deputy Chief Integrated Defence Staff. He was earlier awarded Yudh Seva Medal (Kargil War) and Vishisht Seva Medal.
Ati Vishisht Seva Medal was instituted on January 26, 1960, and awarded to recognise distinguished service of an exceptional order rendered by officers of the armed forces, including the reserve forces and the territorial army, as well as the nursing officers of the armed forces.
