Low pressure likely over south Bay of Bengal in next 48 hours: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The upper air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood extends up to middle tropospheric levels. Under its influence, a Low-Pressure area is likely to form over the south Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours, informed India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.

As per IMD, there is a possibility of fairly widespread to light to moderate rainfall likely over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Similarly, isolated thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph), and heavy rainfall are also likely today i.e. on 6th April. Squally weather with wind speed 35 – 45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph likely to prevail over Andaman Sea and over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining central Bay of Bengal during 6th -09th April, informed IMD.

A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region from April 8, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday. The system is likely to trigger widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-GilgitBaltistan-Muzaffarabad and isolated to scattered rainfall over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between April 9 and April 10, 2025.

As per IMD, there is a possibility of a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2 to 4°C likely over many parts of Northwest India, Maharashtra, and South Peninsular India during the next four days and a fall by 2-3°C during subsequent three days.
