Bhubaneswar: In a major announcement marking the occasion of Odia New Year and Maha Vishuba Sankranti, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Monday declared a comprehensive development package of Rs 215 crore for the iconic Ghatagaon Maa Tarini Temple located in Keonjhar district.
The announcement was made today as part of the Odisha government’s renewed commitment to preserve and promote Odisha’s rich religious and cultural heritage.
According to official sources, the Rs 215 crore Detailed Project Report (DPR) will focus on the holistic development of the Ghatagaon Tarini Temple, one of the most revered shrines in Odisha and a major center of faith for devotees across the state and beyond.
The DPR will include plans for not only the restoration and beautification of the temple structure but also the development of related infrastructure such as approach roads, pilgrim amenities, parking facilities, lighting, sanitation, and spiritual tourism support.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi emphasized that the project aims to elevate the spiritual experience of pilgrims while preserving the historical and cultural sanctity of the shrine.
“Maa Tarini holds a sacred place in the hearts of millions of Odias. The temple will be developed as a major spiritual destination under this Rs 215 crore plan,” he stated.
The proposed development will also include modern facilities like rest houses, a cultural interpretation centre, food courts, and security arrangements to manage the heavy footfall of devotees, especially during festivals and religious events, sources said.
The announcement has been warmly received by local residents, temple devotees, and tourism stakeholders, who believe the move will not only enhance the temple’s infrastructure but also significantly boost regional tourism and economic development.
The DPR preparation and project execution will be undertaken in consultation with heritage conservation experts, temple authorities, and local representatives to ensure that development work aligns with traditional values and architectural integrity.
In March, the Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation (OBCC) invited tender for the project. The deadline to complete all the work as part of the tender is two years.
