Bhubaneswar: A day after being caught while taking Rs one lakh bribe from a contractor, Assistant Engineer Naresh Kumar Das of Rural Works (Public Health) Division in Bhubaneswar was arrested by Odisha Vigilance on Thursday.
A Vigilance statement said that accused Das demanded and accepted a Rs one lakh bribe from a contractor at his office in Bhubaneswar to process pending bills worth approximately Rs seven lakh. Acting on a complaint, Vigilance officials set a trap and apprehended Das while he was accepting the bribe.
Subsequently, cash to the tune of Rs.3.56 was seized including bribe money of Rs 1 lakh, cash Rs.1.26 lakh from his personal search, and Rs 1.30 lakh from his rented house at Bhubaneswar following trap.
In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case 5/2025 U/s-7PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered against the Assistant Engineer.
