Bhubaneswar: In a strong crackdown on corruption, the Odisha government has dismissed 159 officials from service over the last five years on charges of corruption and accumulation of assets beyond their known sources of income. The information was shared by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in the Odisha Assembly on Monday, highlighting the government’s strict stance on corruption and accountability.
According to the official data shared in the Odisha Assembly, 120 government officers and employees have been terminated, while an additional 39 officials were forced into compulsory retirement due to serious allegations of misconduct and financial irregularities. The state government has also seized Rs 59.47 crore worth of illegal assets from officials accused of amassing wealth disproportionate to their income.
The Odisha Chief Minister further revealed that between 2014 and February 2025, the Vigilance Department registered a staggering 3,623 corruption-related cases across the state. Out of these, 2,553 cases have been disposed of, leading to legal action against multiple offenders.
As per the latest statistics, 939 officials have been convicted of corruption-related offenses while 1,053 accused individuals were acquitted due to a lack of sufficient evidence.
The disclosure was made in response to a written question in the Odisha Assembly, where the state government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining transparency and integrity in the administration. The crackdown on corruption is part of a broader effort to cleanse the government machinery of dishonest officials and uphold public trust.
The data presented by the Chief Minister has sparked widespread discussions about the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures in the state. With thousands of cases still under investigation, the government is expected to intensify its vigilance efforts to ensure that public servants adhere to ethical and legal standards.
