263 hamlets converted to revenue villages in a year: Odisha Minister

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government converted 263 hamlets into revenue villages within one year and the process is underway for more such conversion, the state Assembly was informed on Thursday.

A proposal for the conversion of 147 more hamlets is currently under review and a final decision on these pending villages is expected by April, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said while answering a question in the House.

The Minister said that with the use of modern technology for mapping and demarcation of boundary, the process is expected to be completed within a week. Residents of hamlets seeking revenue village status have been advised to submit applications through their local Tehsildar.

Stating that the Board of Revenue has so far declared 1,053 hamlets as revenue villages, he said due to slow implementation during the previous government, only 307 villages have been updated in land records, while over 700 villages are yet to be recorded.

Revenue village status allows settlements to avail the benefits under central and state government welfare schemes.
