3 held on tender fixing charges after CBI’s surprise raid

Bhubaneswar: The CBI on Sunday arrested three persons on financial irregularities and tender fixing charges, a day after seizure of a huge amount of cash from a luxury car in Bhubaneswar.

The arrested have been identified as Chanchal Mukherjee, the head of Kolkata-based Bridge and Roof Company (India) Limited, a Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) associated with various government projects, senior officer Pradeep Mahant and Debadutta Mohapatra, owner of Aditya Dev Infratech Private Limited.

According to sources, raids are currently underway at eight places in Odisha, including zonal offices of the CPSE in Bhubaneswar and Chhatrapur and Mohaptra’s residence at Phulnakhara from where more cash and incriminating documents have been seized.

The sources further stated that the CBI has also seized a white car used by a government officer, who changed three vehicles to reach a star hotel in the city where the central probe agency along with the local police conducted a surprise raid while a multiple-crore deal was allegedly being struck late last evening.

Subsequent search of the car led to recovery of a huge cash and gold ornaments in a bag. The occupants of the vehicle, including Mohapatra, were later taken to the CBI office for questioning.

It is being alleged that a bribe of Rs 12 lakh was to be paid for a Rs 1.5 crore deal. The raids followed a case registered by CBI Delhi against Bridge and Roof Company Limited, the sources added.
