Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has arrested four cyber fraudsters including a couple for allegedly duping a man of around Rs 11 lakh.
As per reports, the couple, identified as Trupti Rajan Patra from Jagannathprasad in Ganjam and his wife Banalata Sahu along with two others were committing the cyber fraud. While the couple was staying in airport rea of thecity, their accomplices were identified as Manas Ranjan Suna of Balangir and Nihar Ranjan Paikaray of Kantilo.
They used to send messages to people on Telegram messaging platform about 20% return on investments. Aftr convincing the gullible people, they were asking them to deposit the money in their mule accounts.
Speaking to the media, DCP Prateek Singh said Abdul Akbar Khan of Barimunda under Mancheswar police station had filed a complaint about cyber fraud a few days ago.
“In his complaint, Khan said he had received a message on his Telegram link on February 17 to join a group. He was told to give a rating to the group for which he would be given some money. Later, he was asked to invest money for high returns. He had deposited around Rs 11 lakh in 16 different accounts of the fraudsters in phases,” the DCP said.
Following the complaint, the police started investigation and arrested the four. The police have sealed 46 mule accounts, he added.
