After Bhubaneswar, Cuttack comes under dengue grip

Cuttack: After Odisha capital Bhubaneswar, the millennium city of Cuttack appears to have come under the grip of dengue. Amid a spurt in dengue cases, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has now launched a cleanliness drive in the city.

While Bhubaneswar witnessed substantial rise in dengue cases over the last over one month, Cuttack had virtually remained free from the disease so far. However, at least 72 dengue cases have reportedly been detected in the city in last couple of days, according to sources.

The CMC has swung into action following detection of dengue cases from different parts of the city. The civic body has launched spraying of anti-mosquito oil, cutting of bushes, besides targeting potential mosquito breeding places in residential areas like CDA.

CMC’s health team along with Swachha Sathis are continuously making the people aware of dengue. They are visiting houses to ensure there are no empty flower vases, pots and other substances in which water can accumulate, sources said, adding that accumulated rainwater serves as a breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes.
