Bhubaneswar: Even as 12 places in Odisha experienced unbearable hot and humid condition with the mercury going past 43 degree Celsius on Friday, the IMD forecast further rise in temperature in next two days.
In its evening bulletin, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar said day temperature is very likely to further rise by 2°C at many places in Odisha during next 48 hours. Consequently,
maximum (day) temperature is likely to be above normal by 4 to 6°C in some districts during next 4 to 5 days.
On the temperature in different places on the day, the IMD table showed that Angul was the hottest in the state with maximum temperature of 44.6 degree Celsius. It was closely followed by Boudh with 44.5 degree.
Nuapada and Balangir, both in western Odisha, recorded 44 degree Celsius. While Baripada recorded 43.8 degree, Titlagarh, Jajpur, Sambalpur and Hirakud registered 43.6, Jharsuguda and Talcher 43.5 and Dhenkanal 43.1 degree Celsius.
The IMD has issued a red warning for next 24 hours and said heat wave to severe heat wave condition is very likely to prevail in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nuapada and Angul.
Issuing an orange warning for Sambalpur, Jajpur, Balasore, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Balangir, Sonepur, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khurda, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur and Deogarh, it forecast that heat wave condition is very likely to prevail in these districts durin the period.
