Rourkela: As many as 14 unnatural deaths were reported from Sundargarh district on Thursday. While 10 deaths were reported from Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH), 4 cases were recorded in Sundargarh district headquarters hospital (DHH).
As per reports, 10 persons reportedly died at RGH and that too within six hours. It is suspected that deaths might be linked to heat-related illness and heatstroke.
Superintendent of RGH Sudharani Pradhan informed that eight of the persons were received dead while two others died after reaching the hospital. “It has not been established that they have died of heatstroke. Most of them were received dead in the hospital. That has happened for unknown reasons. We are unable to give their history,” she said.
The RGH Superintendent further stated that there are some patients whose body temperatures were recorded at 103 -105. “Now heat wave has been prevailing in most parts and their body temperatures were high. We suspect their cases could be heat-related. The bodies have been preserved for post-mortem. We have issued letters to the SP and the Collector for disposal of the bodies by tomorrow.”
Similarly, 4 deaths were reported in Sundargarh DHH and the CDMO said that these could be on account of the heatwave.
