2 Die, Several Hospitalised Amid Diarrhoea Outbreak In Odisha’s Balangir As Rourkela Situation Improves

Balangir: Even as the cholera situation in Odisha’s steel city of Rourkela is slowly improving after over a dozen deaths, two persons reportedly died due to suspected diarrhoea at Kantabanji in Balangir district.

According to reports, six people with complaints of vomiting and loose motion were admitted to Kantabanji hospital on Sunday and two of them died while undergoing treatment on Monday morning.
While two others are now undergoing treatment at the hospital, the remaining two were discharged following recovery.

Health Director Bijay Mohapatra said there is information about six people suffering from diarrhoea at Kantabanji. Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) has rushed to the affected town and his report is awaited, he said.

As per reports, the deceased hailed from Budapadar village under Titilagarh block and Malibahal village under Muribahal block.

CDMO K C Mohanta was quoted by media that they have information of two patients dying during treatment at the hospital.

Stating that the patients had reached the hospital in a serious condition, he said the exact reason for their death is yet to be ascertained.

Sources said several others are suffering from vomiting and loose motion in Kantabanji town and they are being treated in their houses. The CDMO undertook a visit to the area to review and assess the situation.
