5 held, 2 vehicles seized for rash driving in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Special squad and Laxmisagar Police on Monday arrested five persons on charges of driving recklessly and risking the lives of other commuters in Odisha capital. An SUV and a car have also been seized.

Earlier in the day, a video of group of youths driving recklessly at very high speed on Janpath, posing a threat to other riders, had gone viral on social media. If terrorising the commuters and choking traffic was not enough, they were seen driving on the dividers and pavements.

The incident triggered outrage among citizens, which prompted the Commissionerate Police to register a suo moto case.

Within hours, five youths were arrested and two 4-wheelers were seized. Police have also launched a manhunt to nab the others involved in the incident.

Interestingly, the rash driving incident came a day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled to visit Bhubaneswar (turned into a high security zone) to launch Subhadra Yojana, raising serious concern about law and order situation in the state capital.
