Bhubaneswar: Unveiling plans to extensively use modern technology to curb corruption in procurement of paddy, the Odisha government on Saturday said closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed in all the mandis in the state.

Giving this information, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said steps are being taken for installation of CCTV cameras in all mandis as soon as possible. This apart, GPS will be installed in all vehicles engaged in transportation of the paddy as part of steps to prevent irregularities in the process, the Minister said.

The CCTV cameras will be in all mandis on a priority basis to ensure transparency during the procurement of paddy and stop corruption. Stating that this project will be implemented in two months, the Minister said there is also a proposal to set up cold storage units in each block of the state.
