Bhubaneswar: Amidst the chaos of Cyclone Dana, an ASHA worker from Khasmunda village in Kendrapara district has emerged as a hero. Sibani Mandal’s selfless act of evacuating an elderly woman on her shoulder to a cyclone shelter has earned widespread praise, showcasing her dedication and service to the community.
A heartwarming video capturing this moment has gone viral, demonstrating the impact of frontline workers like Mandal. Her efforts haven’t gone unnoticed, as the Odisha Chief Minister recently lauded her work while reviewing the post-cyclone situation.
Taking to his X handle, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi wrote: “Leading from the front, ASHA worker Sibani Mandal from Khasmunda village in Rajnagar block has shown exemplary courage in protecting people from the cyclone. Her efforts are an inspiration to all.” On Friday, the Chief Minister spoke to Mandal and praised her for her efforts.
Similarly, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida praised the ASHA worker in her ‘X’ account. She wrote: “The inspiring scene of ASHA worker Sibani Mandal from Khasmunda village in Rajnagar block, Kendrapara district, carrying an elderly person on her shoulders to a cyclone shelter is a true embodiment of women’s empowerment. Sibani’s selfless act is a testament to the power of women’s strength.”
Meanwhile, Sibani expressed her delight after getting to know that CM praised her work and said “I wasn’t even aware that the CM had spoken about me. I’m thrilled to know that my work has been widely appreciated. I’ve always made it a point to assist people, especially when it comes to healthcare.”
