Crackdown on Public Drinking: 78 fined for flouting rules

Bhubaneswar: Intensifying the crackdown on drinking in public places in Bhubaneswar amid Durga Puja festivities, the Commissionerate Police penalised at least 78 people and collected fine from them.

As per latest information on Monday, over Rs 40,000 fine was collected by police from different places of the state capital for drinking in public places.

As many 78 people were found drinking in public places in different parts of the city and the police imposed fine for violation of rules, sources said.

Raids are being carried out at various places in the city during the ongoing puja celebrations.
It is worth mentioning that on October 16, the fine collected in Bhubaneswar in 15 days amounted to Rs. 8,30,200. “Safe City Drive” campaign has been launched by Bhubaneswar Urban Police for the past few days on the orders of DCP, Bhubaneswar to control crime.

In view of the festive season, the urban police have tightened the patrolling system in various police station under the UPD areas.

Officers and employees of various police stations and POPD and Team-60 are engaged in this patrolling, while the public is being warned against the consumption of alcohol, various drugs, and other criminal activities including vehicle checking and fines are being levied where necessary.
