Bhubaneswar: Odisha evacuated a massive 5.84 lakh people by Thursday evening ahead of the impending landfall of cyclone Dana. As per Odisha CM Mohan Majhi, nearly 6 lakh people will be evacuated in the wake of Cyclone Dana out of which, 5.84 lakh were evacuated by Thursday evening ahead of the landfall.
As per the information provided the CM during a press briefing in Bhubaneswar, 4,421 pregnant women were shifted to hospitals in the areas affected by the cyclone. Out of the evacuated pregnant women, 1600 deliveries were done by Thursday evening, the CM informed.
As many as 8322 cyclone shelters have been opened to house the evacuated persons in the affected areas. Till 10 PM on Thursday, 6008 shelters were made functional.
Moreover, 19,476 livestock were evacuated in view of Cyclone Dana. “I have personally spoken to the ministers who have been given responsibilities to supervise cyclone management in the affected districts. I have also spoken to the MLAs personally. At around 8PM, I spoke to the Prime Minister & Home Minister regarding our preparedness and gave my report. They took stock of our preparations and expressed satisfaction over the arrangements,” the CM added.
