Cyclone Dana makes landfall, likely to weaken into cyclonic storm by forenoon today

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty surface wind battered the Odisha coast as Cyclone Dana made its landfall between Bhitarkanika in the Kendrapara district and Dhamra in Bhadrak, with a wind speed of around 110kmph.

“The severe cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ (pronounced as Dana) moved north-north westwards with a speed of 10kmph and lay centred over north coastal Odisha, about 20km north-northwest of Dhamra and 40km north-northwest of Habalikhati nature camp (Bhitarkanika),” informed IMD.

The landfall process of Cyclone Dana began on the Odisha coast around midnight with the districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Balasore and Jagatsinghpur witnessing wind speeds of 110kmph and extremely heavy rain.

“The landfall process continues and the rear sector of the cyclone is entering into the land. The landfall process would continue for the next 1-2 hours,” read the latest IMD Bulletin.

“It is likely to move nearly west-northwestwards across North Odisha and weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm by forenoon of today, the 25th of October,” it further stated.
