Balangir: The district police on Thursday seized fake currency notes having face value of Rs 1.36 lakh at Bhainsa village in Patnagarh area of Odisha’s Balangir and arrested two persons.
The accused have been identified as Baruna Panuan from Bhaisa village under Patnagarh police limits and Rohit Bastia from Budhabahal village under Deogaon police limits.
According to police sources, 272 fake currency notes in denomination of Rs 500 were seized from the duo, who were involved in the racket for a long time. A computer and instruments used for printing fake notes were also seized during the raid on their residences.
The duo was caught after they tried to pass off some fake currency notes to a singer participating in a local religious event on Wednesday. The singer alerted the committee members, who then informed Patnagarh police about the matter.
“Further investigation into the organised racket is currently underway. We will be able to divulge more information after the investigation and questioning of the arrested accused,” said Patnagarh SDPO Sadanand Pujari.
