Governor extends tenure of 3 universities’ VCs

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor, who is the Chancellor of state-run universities, has extended the tenure of vice-chancellors of three universities while that of three others has not been announced.

A notification, issued from Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Thursday stated that the tenure of vice-chancellors (VCs) of Gangadhar Meher University, Utkal University and Rama Devi Women’s University has been extended for six months from the date of completion of their tenure or till joining of the new VCs, whichever is earlier.

Prof Nagaraju, VC of Gangadhar Meher University in Sambalpur, was scheduled to retire from service on November 26; Prof Sabita Acharya of Utkal University on November 23 and Prof Aparajita Chowdhury of Rama Devi Women’s University’s on November 25.

Earlier on October 14, the Governor had extended the tenure of the vice-chancellors of five state-run universities till November 30. But the tenure of the North Odisha University’s VC was not extended as his tenure was to end on November 30.

The vice-chancellors of Utkal University, Fakir Mohan University, Gangadhar Meher University, Khallikote Unitary University and Rama Devi Women’s University would remain in office till November 30, the notification from Governor’s office had stated.

The decision was taken to complete the tenure of these six vice-chancellors on the same date for the appointment of the new vice-chancellors by December 1, it added.
