HCLTech to set up its development campus & university in Odisha: CM

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday announced that leading technology company HCLTech is all set to launch its operations in the state. The Chief Minister made this announcement while speaking at the Investors’ Meet in New Delhi. The event is aimed at attracting investments and showcasing Odisha as an emerging business destination.

It may be noted that Majhi, who arrived in New Delhi on Sunday evening, visited HCLTech’s NOIDA campus on Monday as part of efforts to strengthen Odisha’s IT and ITeS ecosystem. Discussions with company officials focused on GCCs, tech innovation & high-value jobs—boosting Odisha’s inclusive growth & strategic partnerships.

Addressing the gathering of top industrialists, entrepreneurs, and potential investors, CM Majhi said HCLTech will soon set up a campus in Bhubaneswar. This apart, HCLTech also plans to establish a university in the state, further contributing to Odisha’s goal of becoming an educational and technological hub, he said.

“We had a tour of the HCLTech campus and engaged in productive talks with their team. After the visit, we invited HCL Tech officials to Odisha, specifically to Bhubaneswar and the Jagannath temple in Puri. We presented them with a proposal to establish a campus and a university in the state,” the CM said.

The HCLTEch team was impressed with the proposal and expressed keen interest in setting up a presence in Odisha. They have given a positive response and we are hopeful that the campus will soon be established, said Majhi.

The announcement highlights Odisha’s strategic efforts to diversify its economy beyond mining and heavy industries, with a strong push toward technology, innovation, and skill development.

Officials said the proposed HCLTech campus in Bhubaneswar is expected to function as a centre for research, innovation, and digital learning. The planned university is likely to offer specialized courses in computer science, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and other emerging technologies, thereby nurturing local talent and attracting students from across the country.

Odisha has already been witnessing a tech resurgence, with several IT companies, including TCS, Infosys, and Wipro, operating in the state. The entry of HCL adds further momentum to this growth, signalling Odisha’s rising prominence on India’s digital and IT map.

The CM is on a visit to Delhi for the Odisha Investors’ Meet. Several key government-business meetings and MoU signings with industry leaders like IOCL and Petronet LNG and many more are scheduled for today.

The formal signing of MoUs with the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Indian Strategic Petrochemical Reserves Ltd (ISPRL), and Petronet LNG, among others are expected to usher in substantial investments in the petrochemical sector, enhancing infrastructure and fostering job creation within the state.

The Chief Minister emphasized that these partnerships not only represent a commitment to industrial growth but also align with the broader goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat, aiming for self-reliance and sustainable development.
