Bhubaneswar: Amid the prevailing hot and humid weather condition along with thunderstorm activity, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday warned about heatwave returning to Odisha for 3 days from June 7. It has also forecast a rise in the day temperature by 2-3 degree Celsius after 2 days.
The weather agency further stated that conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon over some parts of South Odisha in next 3-4 days. The monsoon usually arrives in the state by June 12.
Hot and humid weather condition is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati till May 9.
The IMD has also issued yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 40-50 kmph for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Balangir, Malkangiri, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Bargarh on June 5.
On June 6, thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 40-50 kmph may occur at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
Thunderstorm with lightning may continue at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur during the subsequent 24 hours.
On June 8-9, there is a warning of thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 40-50 kmph for one or two places in Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
