Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain at one or two places in Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, and Gajapati districts of Odisha on Monday.
Thunderstorm with lightning is likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts. Light to moderate rain/thundershower may also occur at many places in South Odisha and at a few places in North Odisha.
The weather has also forecast partly cloudy sky with possibility of light rain in Puri till 5pm. Bhubaneswar is likely experience cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. The intensity of rain in the state is likely to decrease thereafter. However, light to moderate rain/thundershower may continue at many places across the state till July 14.
The midday bulletin also mentioned about a cyclonic circulation over westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh coast.
Notably, the IMD’s extended range forecast for two weeks (July 5 to 11 and July 12 to 18) had predicted likely formation of two low pressure systems over Bay of Bengal. It mentioned about moderate probability of formation of cyclonic circulation/low pressure area over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal with subsequent north-westwards movement between July 7 and 11, and low possibility of formation of another low pressure area over westcentral Bay of Bengal during the later half of second week (after July 13).
The MeT added that the overall rainfall activity would remain slightly above normal during the second week with possibility of isolated heavy to very heavy rain in some districts.
