Man beheaded in broad daylight in fortified Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A man was allegedly hacked to death by four to five miscreants on Rasulgarh Road Over Bridge (ROB) in Odisha capital, which is under thick security cover for Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, on Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Sahadev Nayak, a resident of Kedarpalli area. He worked as a supervisor of sanitation workers.

According to sources, the incident took place at around 8 am when Nayak, riding a two-wheeler from Rasulgarh towards Vani Vihar on NH-16, was intercepted by the assailants in two motorcycles. One of them started thrashing the victim with a helmet, and his associate then struck his neck repeatedly with a sword, severing it from the body.

The attack sent shockwaves among passersby as they saw them fleeing the spot with Nayak lying in a pool of blood. On being informed, police reached the place and launched an investigation to identify and trace the killers. “A few persons attacked a man this morning. He has succumbed and a team has reached the spot to investigate the matter. We are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators,” said Mancheswar police station IIC Mrutyunjay Swain.

Previous enmity is being suspected to have led to the fatal attack. The incident took place when the state capital was under the thick blanket of security cover for Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.

At least 90 platoons of the police force, anti-terror agencies, 12 companies of Central Armed Police Forces and over 500 officers have been deployed to ensure the mega event passes of smoothly and the non-resident Indians do not face any inconvenience.
