Nor’wester-Induced Rain & Strong Winds To Continue In Odisha, Mercury May Hit 40°C In 2 Dists

Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm activities accompanied by gusty wind and light to moderate rain may continue in Odisha till April 4, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.

However, there will be no large change in the day temperature in the next 5 days during which mercury may soar to 40 degree Celsius in isolated pockets of Boudh and Balangir districts.

The weather agency has warned of thunderstorm and lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir and Nuapada districts on April 2. There is also a forecast for light rain/thundershower in these districts.

On April 5, yellow warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph has been sounded for one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur in these districts.

The same warning continues for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati on April 4. Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri on this day.

Dry weather conditions may prevail across the state thereafter, it added.
