Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday confirmed four sunstroke deaths in the state this season following a fresh casualty in Mayurbhanj.
While one death each due to heat stroke took place in Dhenkanal and Balasore districts, two persons died following sunstroke in Mayurbhanj,” said Director of Public Health Dr Nilakantha Mishra said.
Mishra further said that probe is underway to ascertain the actual cause of 14 more deaths due to suspected sunstroke reported from different places in the state.
The first sunstroke death in the state was reported from Maheshpur in Balasore district where a 62-year-old Laxmikanta Sahu died on April 15. The second victim was Nimai Charan Rout (50) of Dhenkanal. He died on April 29. The third death was reported from Mayurbhanj on May 8.
