Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Friday expressed his grave concern about the practice of officers overstaying in specific posts during the tenure of the previous government.
While addressing the gathering at the two-day-long state-level Collectors’ conference in Bhubaneswar, Majhi said ‘Sekala pakhala aau nahin’. If translated loosely into English it means gone are those days. But what he probably meant to say was that the practice of overstaying in specific posts would no longer exist in his government.
“An officer should stay in a specific post at max for three to four years. The government rule stipulates the transfer of an officer after four years in a specific post. But there are such officers who have been serving for 15 to 20 years in a single department. But the practice of yesteryears would no longer work in this government,” he said.
“The practices of old days no longer exist with a new sunrise on June 12. We have discussed and analyzed what the new government has done in the past 100 days. You must have known how the new government is functioning as per the manifesto,” he said to the Collectors.
He also put forth the issue of 5T School saying fresh coats of colours to school walls won’t transform the fate of the school. “It is useless to transform a school under 5T by only giving a fresh coat of paint to its dilapidated walls. What is the situation of primary schools in a given panchayat? What is the ratio of teachers and students there? Then, there is also mid-day meal, government work and survey work. Can quality education be expected there?” he asked.
“This is why I had suggested that one of the eight to ten schools in a panchayat should be taken up as a model school and those should be equipped with required infrastructure and faculty. The poor but bright children would read there and after passing out, they would go to 5T schools,” he said.
