Bhubaneswar: The primary school teachers of Odisha have decided to put their proposed “Maha Samaves” (mass rally) in Bhubaneswar following discussion with the chief minister’s office.
Charulata Mohapatra, secretary general of All Utkal Primary Teachers’ Federation, has informed that they had held the discussion with the CMO on their demands. After the CMO sought time till December to fulfil the demands, they have decided to put the proposed mass rally in Bhubaneswar, she added.
The teachers had decided to hold the Maha Samaves on September 26 after the state government failed to meet their 3-point demands. President of Prathamika Sikshak Sangh (Primary Teachers’ Association) Brahmananda Maharana had claimed that 9 teachers’ associations had extended their support to the agitation. Nearly 1 lakh teachers were likely to participate in the mass rally in front of the state Assembly.
Around 1.8 lakh teachers across the state have been protesting since September 8 in support of their demands which include abolition of the contractual appointment system, hike in grade pay and restoration of the old pension scheme.
