Hyderabad: After being released from the prison on Saturday, Telugu superstar Allu Arjun said he respected the law and pledged full cooperation with authorities in connection to the probe in Sandhya Theatre stampede case.
The Pushpa-2 actor addressed the reporters and his fans, who had gathered outside his Jubilee Hills home, soon after walking out of a Hyderabad jail. He had spent one whole night in the jail following his arrest. “There is nothing to worry about. I am fine. I am a law-abiding citizen and will cooperate,” the actor said.
The actor also thanked his fans for their unwavering support. Admitting that he had a difficult time along with his family, he also regretted over the stampede, in which a 38-year-old woman died and her son had to be hospitalized. He called it an ‘unintentional’ accident.
Stating that he had been going to the theatres for the past 20 years and it had always been a joyful experience, he mentioned that ‘things took an unexpected turn’ this time. He also expressed condolences to the family which suffered in the incident and pleaded apology.
Earlier, a 39-year-old woman died, and her eight-year-old son sustained injuries on December 4 during a stampede-like situation at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad when thousands of fans turned up at the premiere of the blockbuster ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’. The actor was also present at the theatre for the premiere.
Based on the complaint by the victim’s family, the city police registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management.
Allu Arjun was arrested on Friday morning. He was sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a lower court. The actor moved the Telangana High Court, which granted him interim bail. The court had observed that Allu Arjun had the right to life and liberty as a citizen despite being an actor.
The actor, however, was not released on Friday as the jail authorities had not received the bail order by then.
