Bhubaneswar: Two districts, Bhadrak and Jajpur, in Odisha have announced closure of all schools on Saturday due to forecast of heavy rain triggered by Cyclone Dana.
Bhadrak Collector Dillip Routray made the official announcement of closure of schools in a notification on Friday. Similarly, the district administration in Jajpur has announced that all schools and Anganwadi Centres will remain closed on Saturday due to forecast of heavy rain.
Cyclone Dana made the landfall between Bhitarkanika in Kendrapada and Dhamra in Bhadrak shortly after midnight, bringing with it torrential rain and intense winds. It was close to Habalikhati Nature Camp and Dhamra during 1.30-3.30 am on Friday with a wind speed of 100-120 kmph. The landfall process took around eight and half hours and was completed at 8.30 am with the storm about 30 km northeast of Bhadrak and 50 km north-northwest of Dhamra.
Following the landfall, several districts including Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Puri and Jagatsinghpur received heavy rainfall.
