Union Budget 2024: Odisha gets record Rs 10,586 crore for railway

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The Centre has allocated a record amount of Rs 10,586 crore for the railway sector in Odisha, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Wednesday

Addressing a press meet in New Delhi, Vaishnaw said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very much interested in scaling up railway infrastructure in Odisha and he himself reviews the progress of various ongoing projects in the state.

“This is a record allocation for Odisha in the railway sector,” he said, adding that during the UPA regime, Odisha used to get only Rs 838 crore. However, after BJP formed government at the Centre in 2014, the allocation has increased 12 times showcasing centre’s plans for development in Odisha, the Railway Minister said.

Stating that over 40 projects are ongoing in Odisha, he said Rs 54,434 crore will be invested in the state for different railway projects. “The railway sector in Odisha will see a massive transformation during the third term of PM Modi,” Vaishnaw said.

Odisha’s railway network has achieved 100 per cent electrification, while 59 railway stations including Cuttack and Bhubaneswar will be redeveloped as Amrit Bharat Station, the Railway Minister said.

Similarly, as many as 427 flyovers and underpasses have been constructed in the state since 2014.
