Balasore: A woman allegedly set herself on fire in Odisha’s Balasore district following a fight with her husband. While the woman is now battling for life, her husband also sustained grievous injuries during a bid to save her.
Both of them have been admitted to the hospital and their conditions remain critical, sources said. The shocking incident has been reported from Adia village under Jadida panchayat of Balasore’s Soro block. The victims have been identified as Sasikant Maharana and his wife Bhanumati Maharana.
According to sources, Sasikant and Bhanumati were at loggerheads over some family issues. On Sunday morning, the couple as usual woke up to a fight over some reason. The couple’s usual tiff turned fatal after an irate Bhanumati poured kerosene and set herself on fire.
Sasikant alarmed other family members and rushed to her rescue. However, he also sustained serious burn injuries in the process. Both of them were rescued and rushed to Soro Community Health Centre (CHC). After preliminary treatment, Bhanumati was shifted to Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital after her condition deteriorated.
