Women’s chess tournament held at Mayurbhanj’s Karanjia

Baripada: An inter-college women’s chess tournament was held at Panchpir Women’s Degree College in Karanjia on October 1 under the aegis of Inter-Zone (Zone-II) chess championship of the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjdeo University (MSCBU), Baripada. Students from four leading colleges of Mayurbhanj participated in the tournament.

According to the results, students from Panchpir Women’s Degree College scored 3.5 and remained on the top followed by students of Karanjia Autonomous College with 2.5 points. Both have qualified for their next round to be held at MSCBU in Baripada. Three arbiters – Siddharth Nanda from Baripada and Debasish Behera & Kabul Chandra Raul, both from Karanjia – conducted the day-long tournament.

At the valedictory function, Sub-Collector Premanshu Chand gave away the trophies to the winning teams and participants as chief guest. Principal of Panchpir Women’s Degree College Pranati Barik chaired the closing ceremony. Academic and administrative staff and colleagues of the participating colleges were also present during the event.
