Youth Congress stages protest over ‘price rise & unemployment’

Bhubaneswar: Alleging an increase in prices of essential commodities and rising unemployment in the State, the youth wing of the Odisha Pradesh Congress staged a protest at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar, on Monday. Hundreds of Youth Congress workers agitated and shouted slogans.

National president of the Indian Youth Congress, Uday Bhanu Chib took part in the protest. Several youths from the party, led by Uday Bhanu Chib, congregated in the forenoon. The agitators were intercepted by police while they were heading towards Odisha Chief Minster’s government quarters. Later, the youths also showed placards as a token of their protest, which continued for quite a long time.

“We had congregated here to put up the demands of people and make the Chief Minister aware. However, our voices are being suppressed by using police. The agitation will be intensified in the future,” local youth leader Yasir Nawaz said to mediapersons.

Reacting to this, Odisha BJP youth wing president Avilash Panda expressed, “They (Congress leaders and workers) are facing an identity crisis these days. The so-called Samabesh is more a party programme than the people’s movement.”

Worth mentioning, that earlier on January 6, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leaders and workers hit the streets in Bhubaneswar protesting the ‘skyrocketing prices of essential commodities’. They alleged that the BJP government has totally failed to check price rise.

Holding placards and banners, the protesters gathered at Lower PMG and raised slogans against the BJP government and accused the Mohan Majhi government of crippling the lives of the poor and middle class.
