Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday apprehended Assistant Engineer of Balianta in Bhubaneswar, Sanghamitra Pattanayak, while allegedly demanding Rs 10,000 as bribe.
According to a Vigilance release, the complainant had requested the AE to clear Rs 42,000 pending against the total bill amount of Rs 2 lakh. However, Pattanayak demanded a bribe to address the issue even after completion of the work. Following which, the complainant reported the matter to Vigilance authorities, who laid a trap and nabbed the accused and his associate Benudhar Parida, who received the bribe amount.
Simultaneous searches are currently underway at two locations linked to Pattanayak to ascertain whether he has accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
A case has been registered against them under Section 7 and 12 of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway, it added.
