Bhubaneswar: Members of Bhubaneswar Ladies Circle (BLC)-12 on Sunday organised a river clean-up drive on Mahanadi river bank in Cuttack to mark the World Rivers Day.
The volunteers of BLC 12 and BRT 53 collected around 300 kg of garbage and plastic waste from the banks of the river. “We were able to rope in over 80 volunteers for the drive and partnered with notable organisations like UNICEF, Youth4Water Plus, Youth for Sustainability, Mati Farms, Odisha Maritime, and Cuttack Cyclists. Ollywood stars Shubhasis Sharma and Samarpita graced our event and also took part in the drive,” the volunteers said.
The river is already plagued by rampant sand mining and rapid erosion of the riverbed.
