Carols and midnight prayers mark Christmas celebrations in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Amid winter rain, midnight carols and holy masses in the praise of Lord Christ marked Christmas celebrations as people across Odisha celebrated the birth of Jesus with pomp and grandeur.

People in large numbers gathered in churches across the state and participated in midnight sermons, carols, special prayers, and masses to mark the occasion as the Christian community radiated joy and enthusiasm.

To highlight the festive fervour of Christmas in the state, International sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik crafted a magnificent sand sculpture featuring a chocolate-studded Santa Claus alongside a Christmas tree and unveiled it yesterday evening in Puri.

Measuring 160 feet in length and 100 feet in width and spread over an area of 16,000 square feet, the installation incorporated approximately 550 kilograms of chocolate, the elaborate artwork set a new world record.

“We thought there was no better way to mark Christmas than by embedding chocolate pieces in it as Santa Claus is popular with kids and adults alike. Now, the entire world will know that the largest Christmas sand sculpture is in Puri,” stated Sudarsan Pattnaik.

Meanwhile, as Puri Beach became home to the world’s largest sand art installation, officially recognized in the World Records Books of India, the stunning visual spectacle also began trending on social media and caught the eyes of visitors and people from across the globe while Odisha remain soaked in Christmas spirit.
